Job Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to ensure the financial health of our small start-up company and assist the founder/owner with financial matters.

As the Controller, you will be the main point of contact for all financial matters and serve as a liaison between the company and the accountant.

Your main task is to analyze financial data, gain insights from this data and monitor KPIs. You will also be responsible for creating operational reports and dashboards.

Responsibilities:

Financial analysis and interpretation:

• You will be the main point of contact for the founder/owner on financial matters.
• You will work closely with external tax advisors to analyze financial data and reports.
• Interpret monthly financial statements.
• Communicate financial findings and recommendations to the founder/owner in a clear and understandable way.
• Identify key trends, opportunities and potential risks, particularly in the areas of liquidity, inventory and outstanding receivables.
• Carry out ad-hoc analyses on current issues.

Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) and findings:

• Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) relevant to the fast fashion industry and our company's business objectives.
• Regularly monitor the developed KPIs and provide insights to support strategic decisions.

Reporting and dashboard development:

• Creating and managing operational dashboards and reports that display relevant KPIs and trend analysis.
• Designing user-friendly and visually appealing dashboards to provide the founder/owner with a quick and accurate insight into the financial and operational situation.

Financial planning and forecasting:

• Developing a simple budgeting and forecasting process.
• Support in setting financial targets and strategies to achieve them, taking into account the specific needs of a small start-up.

Requirements:

• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field.
• Experience in auditing with one of the "Big 4" is an advantage.
• Proven experience of at least 5 years as a controller or in a similar role in a small start-up environment.
• Practical experience in the fast fashion industry is an advantage.
• Strong analytical skills to turn data into actionable insights, considering the resource constraints of a start-up.
• Advanced knowledge of financial modeling and data visualization tools suitable for small businesses (e.g. MS Power Query/Pivot) and MS Office in general.
• Experience with DATEV.
• Excellent communication skills to explain complex financial concepts in an understandable way.
• Detail-oriented, with a focus on accuracy and compliance, given the limited resources of a small start-up.
• Knowledge of relevant accounting standards and regulations in Germany.
